A 2,200-square-foot home that looks like it stepped straight out of the 1920s—working elevator and all—just dropped on the market for $474,900.
The five-bed, two-bath place sits at the end of Girard Avenue in Fishtown, and offers a ton of interesting design elements, like an entrance with a tile design and two sets of glass panel doors. The foyer has stained glass light fixtures, a period chandelier, and a fireplace with an ornate wood mantel.
A hallway leads down to the dining room, which features a similar mantel, along with a wood, built-in armoire. The focal point of that room—and the house in general, really—is the small, working elevator that was put into the home in the 1920s for nuns who lived there at the time, according to the listing.
Even without the elevator, the home has a lot to offer. The next two floors hold the bedrooms, all with wood trim around the windows and pine flooring. A master bedroom on the second floor also has built-in wood dressers with detailing and mirrors.
The brick-fronted place sits at 817 East Girard Avenue, and has seen a price jump since it last sold for $310,000 in May. If you like it, you can check it out for yourself from noon to 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. But be warned, in true early 20th-century fashion, there’s no air conditioning.
